Southampton based Century IT Services have recently helped The Minstead Training Project charity with a computer network installation and modernisation program which was successfully completed a few weeks ago.
The computer network project involved Century IT Services getting involved at the very beginning to understand Minstead’s needs and provide advice on IT systems. Paul Marsh of Century IT Services says “we were more than happy to help out after being approached by The Minstead Training Project. We initially helped by providing IT consultancy services, specifying a computer system that would meet Minstead Training Project’s needs and importantly meeting modern legalisation. This included modernising and improving existing systems whilst also employing new systems, software and securities measures as well as a secure remote and mobile working solution. As with any IT project, it was important that the modernisation was completed on time and to budget with minimal disruption to day to day operations as Minstead’s operations are a 24/7, 365 days a year service.”
Roy Baker, Finance Director at Minstead says “We are very satisfied with our IT System provided by Century IT Services and it actually goes beyond meeting our original requirements, is easy to administer and having received excellent training, again provided by Century IT Services. The benefits of the new system are being utilised by staff and students already – a great result!”
Century IT Services is providing ongoing computer and network support helpdesk services via remote connection and onsite arrangement.
The Minstead Training Project charity was founded in 1986 is situated in the New Forest (Hampshire), in the picturesque village of Minstead near Lyndhurst. It offers whole year round services in residential and day care and training in Work, Life and Social Skills to young people who have learning disabilities.

Our commitment to supplying our customers with an alternative to the traditional phone system increased in June as one of the partners attended a VoIP phone system training day in London. This has given Century IT Services a detailed knowledge of the way that VoIP based phone systems can be very flexible and cost effective solution for our customers.
They could potentially save large amounts of money in call charges and provide a flexible system with features that only enterprise systems offer for example; Voice Mail for all extensions, a Digital Receptionist and tele-conferencing. Also another benefit is that this system runs on a standard Computer running a Windows Operating System so when the computer gets obsolete the phone system software can be easily transferred to a new one.
The course was run by 3CX the powerful software which is at the heart of the phone system that Century IT offers. Since the training Rick Burt now has been certified as a "3CX Valued Professional". This means that Century IT Services has proven itself in installing and configuring the 3CX phone system software in a variety of scenarios. It also has access to the 3CX Support team and other support resources.

This summer has seen Century IT Services provide an internet café solution for the village of Aldbourne in Wiltshire.
The internet cafe is set in the centre of the village in a converted building; it has kitchen and toilet facilities along with desks for 10 people, it also has a chill out area with tables and two black sofas. The internet cafe is made up of 11 HP computers, 17" flat panel monitors, webcams, colour printers and a modern web filtering device. There is also some Xbox game consoles connected to large flat panel HD televisions mounted on the wall. It is also planned to use the CAN for teaching people how to use computers and digital cameras etc
The internet cafe was officially opened on the 24th June 2008 by Chairman of the Parish Council, Brian Buckler, although the cafe will be fully open once volunteers and an employed youth worker can be found to run the day to day activities.
The internet cafe was the idea of the Aldbourne Youth Council and the village Website Group and it was funded by a grant from Kennet District Council, Sarcen Housing association, The National Lottery, GWR Kidz and Wiltshire Young Peoples Opportunity Fund. Nick Wilkinson, a member of the Aldbourne CAN group helped identify the I.T requirements and coordinate tenders from local I.T companies. Century IT Services won this tender after competing with many other local companies.
In the past the Aldbourne Youth Council has:
The overall operations of the Internet cafe will be run by a management team drawn from both the Youth Council and the Website Group. The website group will now begin to create a new village website and together with the Youth Council and other village organisations, develop a valuable digital archiving service for the village. There are also plans for a large display cabinet to go on the wall inside the CAN which will display original pieces of village history and pieces will be rotated to maintain interest.
